A Weekend in Winooski

Family Fun in 1.5 Square Miles

You’ve arrived in downtown Winooski, Vermont — 1.5 beautiful square miles of stunning nature, a thriving food scene, and kindhearted people — for a weekend of fun with the kids. Let’s see what there is to do in this charming little city!

Friday, 5pm:

When you’ve just landed in the most diverse city in the state with a wealth of authentic, locally-owned restaurants, there’s no reason to settle for the same-old. Head straight to Vermont Curry and Cocktails or Pho Dang on Main St. for dinner — you won’t regret it. Then, take an afterdinner drive around the city for a sneak preview of what’s to come.

Saturday, 10am:

If you’re not still too full from last night, make your way over to Sneaker’s Bistro in the Rotary to see for yourself why it’s become a legendary brunch destination far beyond Winooski. Just look for the big red sneakers and the line out the door! But don’t let that deter you — check in on the website before you leave your lodging to get a great spot in line.

Saturday, 12pm:

Fueled by breakfast, the kids are surely ready to burn some energy. With a playground, skate park, tennis courts, soccer field, baseball diamond, and seasonal pool, Landry Park is the place to go! With so much to do, kids of all ages and inclinations are sure to enjoy the amenities while the adults take a stroll or join in on the fun.

Saturday, 3pm:

Wind down the afternoon by heading back downtown to explore the Rotary on foot. Teach the kiddos what a vinyl record is at Autumn Records, take home a new look from Rhoan, or find the perfect souvenir at Misery Loves Company. If you need a little refresher, stop in at Scout & Co. for some coffee and unique ice cream flavors.

Saturday, 5pm:

With both dinner and the sunset on the horizon, it’s a no-brainer to spend it at Waterworks Food + Drink, where you can take in the beautiful views of the Winooski Falls as you dine. While at your table, visit the Heritage Winooski Mill Museum website to read up on the historic Champlain Mill that houses both the restaurant and the museum.

Saturday, 7pm:

End the day on the Winooski Riverwalk, just steps outside the restaurant. With the incredible sights and sounds of the Winooski River beside you, you might just spot geese and other wildlife enjoying the evening along with you!

Sunday, 8am:

Waking up bright and early requires coffee — and we know just the place! Visit spec’s café on W Canal St. for delicious specialty drinks and pastries. When you’re done, pop next door to the joined beverage mart and pick up something for the road.

Sunday, 10am:

Now that you’re caffeinated, keep the kiddos’ minds sharp even on vacation with the educational Historic Walking Tour. Explore Winooski’s industrial mill town history firsthand and learn about the hydroelectric project that provides power today.

Sunday, 12pm:

Sunday is market day in Winooski and you don’t want to miss it! Find the Winooski Farmers Market at the bottom of the Rotary and browse Vermont-made wares from over two dozen local vendors. Grab a sandwich, authentic dosas, or one of the other incredible lunch options and enjoy it on the lawn while taking in the live music, kids activities, and bustling market atmosphere.

Sunday, 2pm:

After lunch, it’s time for dessert and it couldn’t be easier to find. Hop across the street from the market to Mattarello Baked Goods for delectable treats and cakes. Be sure to snag a family pic in front of the gorgeous rose wall!

Sunday, 5pm:

After two packed days in Winooski, it’s time to end your trip with dinner before hitting the road. Circle back to Main St. for locals’ favorite, Mountain Valley Restaurant, for friendly service and incredible food. After a meal like that, you’re sure to be spending another weekend in Winooski soon.

Bon Voyage! See you again soon.
